The InnerView Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is the InnerView?
The assessment methodology is named InnerViewing.
The InnerView instrument is a 96-question multiple-choice
survey completed on an individual basis in 15-20 minutes. The survey
is available in print and computer software versions, the latter
accessible by personal computer (using software or by accessing
the Company's Internet site). A highly developed proprietary computer
program analyzes each set of responses and produces the InnerView
Professional Profile. The Professional Profile is presented
in a bound 14- to 16-page document accompanied by The InnerView:
A Synopsis of the InnerViewing Method, a 24-page overview of
the InnerViewing method. Alternatively, Professional Profiles
may be viewed on the computer screen with the option to download
and save to file and/or print a hard copy of the document in whole
or in part. Customization of reports is planned and expected to
be available to corporate clients by the end of this year.
The InnerView Survey and the InnerView Professional
Profile
A typical InnerView question asks for objective information about
the survey Respondent. For example:
In school the record shows that in courses I liked:
(a) I made top grades.
(b) I was above average.
(c) I did better than in other classes.
In this case, a statement of action reflects effective intellectual
capacity far more certainly than solving an algebra problem,
which reflects training rather than intellect.
The InnerView survey typically asks multiple questions
to the same point in order to achieve a reliable pattern or response,
thereby indicating true individual characteristics. When scores
are interpolated, a number (an average of the scores for each trait)
emerges. This number will reside somewhere along a gradual continuum
so that, within ten percent of accuracy in either positive or negative
direction, descriptive words are produced. Gradient vocabulary is
associated with points along the continuum. The InnerView
has been developed so that a specific and precise vocabulary can
be used to describe all static elements of personality without overlap
or contradiction. Accuracy of InnerView Profiling is not
absolute. Rather, reasonable approximations of an individual's personal
traits are provided in InnerView Professional Profile reports,
and are dependent on the Respondent's ability and willingness to
respond honestly and with a fair amount of personal insight to InnerView
questions. Proof of accuracy is best reported by ten year's of use
by more three thousand InnerViews with more than 90 percent
user reported satisfaction.
The InnerView also includes a business assessment
that relates InnerView findings to ten characteristics considered
most relevant to the workplace. These include integrity, initiative,
service, creativity, teamwork, leadership, tenacity, sales aptitude,
ambition and adaptability.
2. Has the InnerView been validated?
InnerViewing has a unique strength referred to as self-editing.
Individuals are requested to review their Professional Profiles
and note areas "most like them" and "not particularly like them."
This ensures that, even if specific questions were misunderstood,
the individual has the opportunity to offer his own best understanding
of himself. They consequently bring to an employment interview,
for example, a wealth of information about themselves. This information
is also available to the interviewers prior to a personal job interview,
and forms the basis of a much-enhanced discussion about a company
or specific employment position in relation to personal preferences
and traits.
3. What is the InnerView's research base?
Psychologists have been measuring aspects of personality for years
and many widely accepted concepts have emerged. Many formal personality
assessment tools are based on generally the same well-established
principals of psychology. The InnerView Personality Profile
is a unique and comprehensive personality profiling system based
on more than 25 years of research and development and applied to
contemporary business practices. Personality elements measured by
the InnerViewing method and instrument are:
- Values
- Capacity
- Advantage
- Velocity
- Style
Integrated and expressed collectively, these factors reflect virtually
all personal characteristics that effectively distinguish individuals
and are believed to be highly stable in adults. Based largely on
the pioneering psychological concepts of David Marston, Alfred Spranger,
Vernon, Allport, Lindsey, Abraham Maslow, and, more recently, Robert
Sternberg, the InnerView distinguishes itself from other
personality assessments in two important ways. First, The InnerView
combines the analysis of multiple aspects of personality to provide
a more complete personality assessment. Matching the comprehensiveness
of the InnerView would require the use of several personality
assessments. Second, the InnerView attempts to reflect the
Respondent's rate of achievement over time, along the lines of the
Respondent's personal values hierarchy. This measurement is reported
as Velocity.
4. Is the InnerView Professional Profile bias-free?
InnerViewing is not gender, nationality, race or religion
biased. Its potential applications are valid in any industrialized
country.
5. How complicated is the InnerView to administer?
The InnerView is unique in that it provides personality
analysis that is easily administered and understood by individuals
with no formal psychological training. It requires neither training
nor supervision to administer. The survey may be completed in written
form or on an Internet website. Solutions for employees with specific
disabilities are available.
6. What is the InnerView's track record?
The Carefree Institute has sold, on average, 300 InnerView profiles
per year for the past fourteen years. Current Users of InnerView
profiling represent a variety of industry segments, including hospitality,
property management, healthcare, finance, organizational development
and human resource consultants.
7. What is meant by satisfaction guaranteed?
Thousands of InnerViews have been administered over the
years with a money-back satisfaction guarantee. Customer satisfaction
is reported at more than 95 percent. This repeat business has been
sustained solely by the integrity and proven value of the product,
as no representative of the Carefree Institute has managed these
accounts. All InnerView profile data will be captured for periodic
assessment of accuracy, reliability and to analyze various trends.
No other known organization has access to such scope of information
on personality characteristics related to workplace performance.
8. What distinguishes the instrument and the software system?
The Carefree Institute offers the first empirical, comprehensive
personality profiling system that, empowered by state-of-the-art
technology, enables managers to effectively data mine their human
resource pool. Correspondingly, the InnerViewing system offers
employees a unique opportunity to achieve job satisfaction and automatically
be considered for advancements and career changes. The overall result
is increased value of the company's human resource asset as turnover
costs are greatly reduced and dedicated, high performers are widespread.
No other instrument or software system provides this extensive capability.
The InnerViewing system is unique, cannot readily be duplicated,
is highly researched and expertly implemented. It enables much improved
decision making and access to resources.
The Technology Plan
Data Repository: A second competitive advantage is the Company's
information technology plan that includes the development of a vast
data repository that will become an unsurpassed resource for workforce
management research. This data bank will include all completed InnerView
Profiles and success measurements for specific jobs across industries.
Many educational, business management and government research groups
will be interested in potential applications of such data. We will
also use the data to conduct trend analyses, complete quality assurance
studies and report increasingly accurate statistics.
Optional customization: A third competitive advantage is
optional customization of reports.
Linking InnerView software to other human resource
information management systems is also available to our corporate
clients. For example, the client may use a commercial, customized
or hybrid application for management of such data as length of service,
use of paid time off, positions held in the company, education level,
specific skill sets, etc. We will be able to link InnerViewing
software in such a way as to produce highly customized reports,
allowing for extreme customer responsiveness. Likewise, we can link
to payroll or other pertinent application systems.
9. What is offered for training and staff development?
Training and staff development are critical functions of the company
and will be needed from initial re-organization forward. This business
unit will be responsible for three distinct types of training:
- Training of Corporate Client Executives and Front-line Managers,
to include:
- Introduction to InnerViewing
- Applied InnerViewing
- Advanced Applications of InnerViewing
- Training of The Carefree Institute employees
- InnerViewing, Three Levels: Introduction, Advanced
and Customization
- Data Management
- Employee Training and Development
10. Who are the Account Managers?
Account Managers will primarily be responsible for generating and
maintaining long-term client relationships. Responsibilities will
include implementation of the InnerViewing System, monitoring
ongoing implementation and customer satisfaction as well as introduction
of new products and services. Account Managers will become Certified
InnerViewing Trainers after demonstrated success in applying
the
- InnerViewing System and current business applications
- Company Sales Program
- The Carefree Institute Customer Service Program
Certified Trainers will have also completed The Carefree Institute
new employee orientation program. Account Managers will be required
from the start of corporate re-organization forward, and will be
added according to the following schedule to support sales objectives:
Account Managers are not consultants. They are empowered to facilitate
successful implementation of InnerViewing, geared specifically to
their clients' needs.
11. Tell me about Quality Control
The management team has planned for generous allocation of resources
to product research and development at each stage of development.
The management team and advisory board have been carefully structured
to provide thorough expert oversight to quality control, including
ongoing data analysis, routine updates to current standard business
processes, technology and language and frequent staff education
and training. New applications of InnerViewing are researched, developed
and tested on an ongoing basis.
